Green Tips to Save the Earth

Imagine asking the dustman to cart off 480 double-decker buses jam packed with stinking, rotten rubbish.  Sadly, that is the problem our environment faces every day.  Twenty four thousand tonnes of waste is dumped daily and that includes a staggering 15 million plastic bags, enough to fill 25 buses.  Some of the waste like sewage, finds its way into the harbour, polluting the waters and killing marine life.  But the damage doesn't end there.  Rotting waste releases harmful gases into the air which threaten everyone's health.

Malaria myths

It is important that UK travellers separate myths from facts when protecting themselves from a deadly disease such as malaria:
Fact: Everyone’s bodies react differently to mosquito bites but this is no indication of whether you have been bitten by a malaria-carrying mosquito. It only takes one bite to contract malaria
Fact: Antimalarials tend to be between 90 – 100% effective, and in combination with good bite prevention, can help stop you contracting malaria. Remember, malaria can be deadly

Top Five Tips Gap Year

Get vaccinated

Travelling to exotic climates and coming into contact with unfamiliar illnesses can result in delay, curtailment or unplanned medical expenses. Indeed, illness and medical costs can be responsible for over half of claims on long term insurance policies. Ensuring you have the correct vaccinations and take appropriate medication such as anti-malaria pills is vital to minimising this risk.

Take care of your belongings

Hollywood actor Arnold Schwarzenegger is injured on every film set

Arnold Schwarzenegger has never filmed a movie without being injured.

The 67-year-old hard-man - who often carries out his own stunts - has revealed that he has been left bloodied and bruised during filming and has never escaped a set without needing medical attention.
He said: "I've never walked away from any movie where there wasn't an injury. If it's an elbow injury or shoulder injury or a knee injury or an ankle injury or something, or you cut your head open, because you know it's through some crazy thing, you just bang your head into the camera when you do the stunts.

Facebook: An End to Endings?

I do not enjoy Facebook — I find it cloying and impossible — but I am there every day. Last year I watched a friend struggle through breast cancer treatment in front of hundreds of friends. She broadcast her news with caution, training her crowd in how to react: no drama, please; good vibes; videos with puppies or kittens welcomed. I watched two men grieve for lost children — one man I've only met online, whose daughter choked to death; one an old friend, whose infant son and daughter, and his wife and mother-in-law, died in an auto accident.
I watched in real time as these people reconstructed themselves in the wake of events — altering their avatars, committing to new causes, liking and linking, boiling over in anger at dumb comments, eventually posting jokes again, or uploading new photos. Learning to take the measure of the world with new eyes. No other medium has shown me this in the same way. Even the most personal literary memoir has more distance, more compression, than these status updates. In the world of social media, it can feel bizarre that potent evidence of grieving from one friend is followed so quickly by pictures of oven-fresh cookies from another. But Facebook is generated by algorithms without feelings. It's not a narrative: The breast cancer went into remission, but the stories of the radiation treatment continue; the lost children remain as photos, woven into the threads of hundreds of lives. The details of everyday life begin to fill in around those threads. The tide brings in status updates; the tide takes them out.

One Price

One Piece is my all-time favorite anime. It is a perfect blend of comedy and action. The back stories of the main characters are very sad, they even bring me close to tears or do make me cry. The characters are so interesting that they hold my attention in this very long series. Luffy - the rubber captain, Zoro - the second greatest swordsman, Nami - the navigator, Usopp - the often cowardly sniper, Sanji - the kicking and smoking cook, Chopper - the talking human reindeer doctor, Robin - the archaeologist that can sprout her limbs from anything, Franky - the human/cyborg craftsman, and Brook - the walking talking skeleton with an afro, that can fight with a sword albeit not as good as Zoro, and has a habit of asking to look at women's panties.

America’s Next Top Model (ANTM)

“Want to be on top?” America’s Next Top Model (ANTM), started by model/celebrity Tyra Banks herself, is a competition where girls have a chance to follow their dreams of becoming a model.

Throughout the competition, the girls have photo shoots and challenges to determine who will stay another week longer, and which girl’s dreams of becoming America’s Next Top Model ends. Each week the photo shoots are always different; one week they could be shooting in a barren desert, another week they could be shooting underwater with hundreds of fish. This is a lot of pressure on each of the girls because for many, this could be their big break that would get them in a good place in the modeling industry.

The Affect Music Has On Different Teens

Music is something that every person has his or her own specific opinion about. Different people have different taste, and various types of music have many ways of leaving an impact on someone. It can be relaxing, angering, soothing, energizing, and many more.

There are so many types of music out there today. Rap, pop, rock, country, indie, alternative, hardcore are some of the abundant types in the world. Music sends out either good or bad messages that have big impacts on how people act. People usually become friends with others who have a same taste in music as the rest of the people they hangout with, or it can be vice versa. People may not want to associate with people who have different tastes in music because they’ll argue about what they think is better but its just their own opinions.

Linus Benedict Torvalds

Torvalds was born in Helsinki, Finland. He is the son of journalists Anna and Nils Torvalds, and the grandson of poet Ole Torvalds. Both of his parents were campus radicals at the University of Helsinki in the 1960s. His family belongs to the Swedish-speaking minority (5.5% of Finland's population). Torvalds was named after Linus Pauling, the Nobel Prize–winning American chemist, although in the book Rebel Code: Linux and the Open Source Revolution, Torvalds is quoted as saying, "I think I was named equally for Linus the Peanuts cartoon character", noting that this makes him half "Nobel Prize–winning chemist" and half "blanket-carrying cartoon character".

LINUX

Linux (Listeni/ˈlɪnəks/ lin-uks or, less frequently used, /ˈlaɪnəks/ lyn-uks) is a Unix-like and mostly POSIX-compliant computer operating system assembled under the model of free and open-source software development and distribution. The defining component of Linux is the Linux kernel, andoperating system kernel first released on 5 October 1991 by Linus Torvalds. The Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to describe the operating system, which has led to some controversy.

Linux was originally developed as a free operating system for Intel x86–based personal computers, but has since been ported to more computer hardware platforms than any other operating system.[citation needed] It is the leading operating system on servers and other big iron systems such as mainframe computers and supercomputers, but is used on only around 1% of desktop computers. Linux also runs on embedded systems, which are devices whose operating system is typically built into the firmware and is highly tailored to the system; this includes mobile phones, tablet computers, network routers, facility automation controls, televisions and video game consoles. Android, the most widely used operating system for tablets and smartphones, is built on top of the Linux kernel.

PROXY SERVER

In computer networks, a proxy server is a server (a computer system or an application) that acts as an intermediary for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers. A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource available from a different server and the proxy server evaluates the request as a way to simplify and control its complexity. Proxies were invented to add structure and encapsulation to distributed systems. Today, most proxies are web proxies, facilitating access to content on the World Wide Web and providing anonymity.
A proxy server may reside on the user's local computer, or at various points between the user's computer and destination servers on the Internet.
  • A proxy server that passes requests and responses unmodified is usually called a gateway or sometimes a tunneling proxy.
  • A forward proxy is an Internet-facing proxy used to retrieve from a wide range of sources (in most cases anywhere on the Internet).
  • A reverse proxy is usually an Internet-facing proxy used as a front-end to control and protect access to a server on a private network. A reverse proxy commonly also performs tasks such as load-balancing, authentication, decryption or caching.

BANK CENTRAL ASIA

Bank Central Asia (BCA) is an Indonesian bank founded on August 10, 1955.

The Asian financial crisis in 1997 had a tremendous impact on Indonesia’s entire banking system. In particular, it affected BCA’s cash flow and even threatened its survival. Panic rush forced the bank to seek assistance from the Indonesian government. The Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency took over control of the bank in 1998.

Somehow full recovery was accomplished later in the same year. In December 1998, third-party funds were back at the pre-crisis level. BCA’s assets stood at Rp 67.93 trillion, as opposed to Rp 53.36 trillion in December 1997. Public confidence in BCA was fully restored, and BCA was released by IBRA to BI in 2001

HISTORY FIFA

The need for a single body to oversee association football became apparent at the beginning of the 20th century with the increasing popularity of international fixtures. The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) was founded in the rear of the headquarters of the Union des Sociétés Françaises de Sports Athlétiques at the Rue Saint Honoré 229 in Paris on 21 May 1904.[4] The French name and acronym persist even outside French-speaking countries. The founding members were the national associations of Belgium, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Spain (represented by Madrid Football Club; the Spanish federation was not created until 1913), Sweden and Switzerland. Also, that same day, the German Association declared its intention of affiliating through a telegram.[1]

The first president of FIFA was Robert Guérin. Guérin was replaced in 1906 by Daniel Burley Woolfall from England, by then a member of the association. The first tournament FIFA staged, the association football competition for the 1908 Olympics in London was more successful than its Olympic predecessors, despite the presence of professional footballers, contrary to the founding principles of FIFA.

ASSIGNMENT 3

1. MEMO IS :

·         a hard-copy (sent on paper) document
·         used for communicating inside an organisation
·         usually short
·         contains To, From, Date, subject headings and Message sections

·         does not need to be signed, but sometimes has the sender's name at the bottom to be more friendly, or the sender's full name to be more formal. If in doubt, follow your company style.

Memo writing is something of an art form. A letter is not a memo, nor is a memo a letter. A memo is a short, to the point communication conveying your thoughts, reactions or opinion on something. A memo can call people to action or broadcast a bit of timely news. With memo writing, shorter is better.
As with all writing, memo writing needs a structure. Because they are short, rambling meanderings will soon destroy the memo’s effectiveness and become a waste of productive time to those that read it and to the person who wrote it.
If you have something longer than a page, it’s better to send it as an attachment or a document that follows the memo used as a cover letter. Never make a memo too long. If someone takes a glance at a memo that appears to be too long, there’s a good chance it will be set aside for a time when they aren’t busy. This can defeat your memo’s purpose which is timely communication.

     A.   Inquiry Letter
Inquiry Letter introduces the organization and allows the donor to contribute before committing to a proposal.

A letter of inquiry follows a very standard format. The first paragraph introduces the organization and proceeds to define the organization's mission statement. After that, the letter describes how the organization plans to use the funds it raises and its methodology for using the funds. The letter closes after summarizing the points it has made. Generally, the potential donor, agency or foundation granting the funds has strict requirements, such as page length and format, for letters of inquiry.
